October 27, 2026 – Stone Ridge, NY– SUNY Ulster will host Beyond the Gallery: Altered Landscapes, a panel discussion exploring changes in the local environment and the work being done to address them, on November 5 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the College Lounge at Vanderlyn Hall on the College’s Stone Ridge campus.
The discussion will expand on the themes of Altered Landscapes, the current art exhibition up through November 20 at SUNY Ulster, bringing together professionals working in local ecology, conservation, climate action and environmental restoration. Panelists will reflect on the changes they are observing in the region’s fields, forests and streams, discuss how their organizations are responding to environmental challenges, and share their visions for the future.
The panel will feature Tim Guinee of Climate Action Now and the Climate Reality Project; Jaxson Mack, forest ecologist at Mohonk Preserve; John Thompson, CRISP coordinator at the Catskill Center; and Mark Vian, river restoration ecologist retired from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection and currently with Deep Stream Tracking program. Kristin Flynn, curator of the exhibition, will moderate the discussion.
By connecting the artwork in Altered Landscapes with the experiences and expertise of local environmental professionals, the event will offer attendees an opportunity to explore how the region’s natural environments are changing and consider the role of science, conservation and community action in shaping their future.
