SUNY Ulster Commemorates the 75th Anniversaryof the Declaration of Human Rights on December 8

December 1, 2023 – Stone Ridge, NY – SUNY Ulster invites the community to Quimby Theater on Friday, December 8 at 1 p.m. for a commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights as proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on December 10, 1948.

 The Declaration was adopted in the aftermath of World War II. It enshrines the rights of all human beings and seeks to increase the knowledge and indivisibility of human rights and to develop a shared humanity.

 This program will consist of speakers voicing the need to advance freedom and equality through historical, current, and personal perspectives:

SUNY Ulster Professor of History, Hans Vought, gives a historic perspective on the importance of this Declaration and its modern-day application.

Ms. Lauren Yanks speaks about the Blue Butterfly Foundation and the work it does to further human rights.

SUNY Ulster Student Government Leaders Kamlesh Baral and Sanjay Basnet share their personal stories of challenges and what access to good education and human rights means to them.

Candice Van Dyke, Assistant Professor of English and Chief Diversity Officer at SUNY Ulster as well as Commissioner of the Ulster County Human Rights Commission represents the Commission which exists to foster respect for the rights of all people and to explore opportunities for improving relations among all people of Ulster County.
