Pre-Apprenticeship Microcredential in Advanced Manufacturing from SUNY Ulster Leads to Job Interview after Just 15-Weeks

SUNY Ulster Press Release

July 22, 2021 – Kingston, NY – SUNY Ulster announces an Advanced Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship Microcredential for those looking to start a career in Advanced Manufacturing.  Students can complete this program by attending class one day per week for 15 weeks. At the end of the 15 weeks, local manufacturing companies looking to hire local talent will interview students who successfully complete.

Courses within the Pre-apprenticeship Microcredential include MSSC Certified Production Technician (CPT) and Fundamental Concepts of Metrology.

Students in the Certified Production Technician (CPT 4.0) program will learn the core skills they need to work in advanced manufacturing production in one of many Hudson Valley companies. Students who successfully complete all training components will earn a nationally-recognized certification that prepares them to work as a front line technician with opportunities to move into more advanced manufacturing production positions.  This program is ideal for individuals with limited or no prior knowledge of manufacturing who wish to begin a career in this high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand industry.

The CPT 4.0 program consists of four individual certification exams:

  • Safety
  • Quality Practices & Measurement
  • Manufacturing Processes & Production
  • Maintenance Awareness

Students will also take Fundamental Concepts of Metrology.  This course teaches students to interpret the symbols and measurements that appear on technical drawings as necessary for machine operators, supervisors, inspectors, and other manufacturing personnel. The course will incorporate team-based skill training and understanding the environment of a manufacturing company.

SUNY Ulster created this microcredential with support from local manufacturing companies who continue to increase production and add jobs. Students within this program will have the opportunity to meet with local employers during the program, apply for work-based learning experiences, and interview for open positions.

The program begins on August 26 and the registration deadline is August 20. For more information or the potential to receive tuition assistance for the program, please call SUNY Ulster’s registration team at 845-339-2025.
