Governor Hochul Appoints SUNY Ulster Alumnus Victor H. Cueva Milla to College Board of Trustees

July 16, 2026 – Stone Ridge, NY – Governor Kathy Hochul has appointed distinguished SUNY Ulster alumnus and Alumni Hall of Fame member Victor H. Cueva Milla to the SUNY Ulster Board of Trustees.

A proud SUNY Ulster alumnus, Trustee Cueva Milla currently serves as Executive Director of the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network (UIDN). Throughout his career, he has been a dedicated advocate for immigrant communities and a leader in the nonprofit legal sector. His appointment brings extensive leadership experience and a deep commitment to public service to the College’s governing board.

“Victor exemplifies the very best of SUNY Ulster,” said Dr. Alison Buckley, President of SUNY Ulster. “As an alumnus, accomplished attorney, and dedicated advocate, he has devoted his career to serving others and strengthening our communities. We are thrilled to welcome him back in this new leadership role and know his insight, integrity, and commitment to public service will be invaluable as we continue to advance SUNY Ulster’s mission.”

Born in Peru, Trustee Cueva Milla’s commitment to immigration justice is rooted in his own experience as an immigrant. He has spent his career in the nonprofit sector, providing legal services and advancing access to justice for immigrant communities throughout the Hudson Valley. Before joining UIDN, he served as Fellowship Director at the Immigrant Justice Corps, overseeing the fellowship program for approximately 230 new immigration attorneys placed at nonprofit organizations nationwide.

While at SUNY Ulster, Trustee Cueva Milla served as a Student Admissions Ambassador, earned consistent Dean’s List recognition, and competed on the College’s NJCAA Division III men’s soccer team that advanced to the Mid-Hudson Conference regional finals. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree, summa cum laude, in Political Science from the University at Albany before receiving his Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University as an E. Nathaniel Gates Scholar. He was later selected as one of just 25 law graduates nationwide for the prestigious Immigrant Justice Corps Fellowship founded by the late Chief Judge Robert A. Katzmann.

Trustee Cueva Milla has been recognized throughout his career for his leadership and service, receiving the 2025 Inspire Award for Community Impact from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, the 2024 Distinguished Alumnus Award for Professional Contribution from the New York Community College Trustees, and induction into the SUNY Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame. Under his leadership, the Ulster Immigrant Defense Network received the 2025 Ulster County Human Rights Award.

“I am honored to serve on the SUNY Ulster Board of Trustees,” said Cueva Milla. “SUNY Ulster opened doors for me and laid the foundation for everything that followed. I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the institution that helped shape my future and look forward to working with my fellow trustees to ensure today’s students have the same opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.”
