Police Basic Training Program at SUNY Ulster Celebrates New Class

100% of Graduates Secure Employment

August 6, 2026 – Stone Ridge, NY – SUNY Ulster proudly announces the graduation of its latest class from the Police Basic Training program. In a ceremony held on July 22, 2026, 16 cadets were officially recognized for completing the rigorous program that prepares them for careers in law enforcement.

This year’s class achieved a 100% employment rate, with all 16 graduates securing positions with law enforcement agencies in Ulster, Dutchess, and Chautauqua Counties, continuing the program’s long-standing record of preparing highly qualified officers to serve communities throughout the region.

“This class boasts a 100% job placement rate, with most graduates being employed by local agencies right here in our community,” says Jim Truitt, Chair of the Criminal Justice Department. “This achievement highlights the dedication of our students and the strength of our partnerships with local law enforcement.”

Several students were recognized for their academic achievements including:

• Charles Gent was named Top Cop
• Jason Kinscy was awarded Top Physical Fitness
• Hunter Bogosian received the Top Academics and the Krupica Scholarship

The Krupica Scholarship Award was created by George Krupica, a proud SUNY Ulster alumnus and retired law enforcement professional, to support students pursuing careers in criminal justice and law enforcement.

Acceptance into the Police Basic Training program is highly competitive and based on performance on the physical agility test. The 30-credit certificate program is offered through a collaboration between SUNY Ulster and the Ulster County Law Enforcement Training Group (UCLETG) and incorporates all New York State-approved pre-employment curriculum and objectives. In addition to preparing recruits for careers in law enforcement, SUNY Ulster’s Police Basic Training Certificate Program provides 30 college credits that apply toward the College’s Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Criminal Justice.
